The family business was founded in 1848 and supplies its products under the brand name Kappus. After German reunification in 1990 Kappus took over the largest soap factory in the former GDR in Riesa in Saxony , now known as Kappus Riesa GmbH . The soap factory in Gröba district was built in 1910 as the first major production facility the Wholesale Society German Consumvereine ( GEG ) .
